The parties at his LA mansion were legendary, brought himself out of the Monkees and had to sell his house, to his old mate Stephen Stills. Ended up sleeping on David Crosby's sofa. A proper head

Very sad.
Really underrated band IMO, if you can get past the manufactured bit which I think has become less relevant. It doesn't mean they didn't care about the music, they spent a lot of their career trying to fight against their original identity and make all the creative decisions.
I'd rather listen to the Monkees than the Beach Boys.
