Very sad.

Really underrated band IMO, if you can get past the manufactured bit which I think has become less relevant. It doesn't mean they didn't care about the music, they spent a lot of their career trying to fight against their original identity and make all the creative decisions.

I'd rather listen to the Monkees than the Beach Boys.
